LL Bean Trip

So, I'm just now getting to update this post with a little description. While at my parents house during vacation / Easter weekend, we had a bit of rain and nothing to do. I suggested taking a little ride and everyone got on board. We piled into the Jeep and headed out for LL Bean. Cooper had been once before but he wasn't really old enough to remember it. Cosmo has a good time looking at the animals but as soon as I got my phone out to take pictures, he started to get a little squirmy. I tried to get him so you could see the whole moose while he was looking at me but that wasn't happening as he just wanted to run to wherever Cooper was.

If Cooper was a little bit older, a little more into it, and the hat wasn't $60, maybe...I think he's fine with his safari hat that we already have.

I kept trying to get a clear picture of Cooper as he kept making kissey faces at the trout as thought he was actually inside. It was funny but I couldn't quite get the angle right to the point that the flash wouldn't ruin the picture.

This was one of my favorite pictures from the weekend. We played a lot outside and whatnot but this one just stands out as Cosmo was so interested in watching the fish. He had a good time but had to keep moving so other kids could have a turn.

Both kids had a good time watching the fish but as a parent, I just kept waiting for one of them to fall in as they kept getting closer and closer and leaning way over to point at the fish in the trout pond.

Vacation Week So Far

This has been a great vacation week so far. I've had the boys with me all but one day. Vacation started with me cashing in a reward at work Friday for a Toys R Us gift card so Cooper could get a new bike that we plan on learning to ride without training wheels. I took him to the store and we spent over an hour going through and trying multiple bikes for size and found that he'll outgrow a 16" bike to fast but 18" with the seat set all the way down would be perfect. This is what he ended up with.

After we finally decided on the bike and got it loaded into the car, we ended up going out to a quick dinner as it was already 7:30. Cooper always asks if I can take him out to eat without Cosmo as he likes when it's just the two of us. After we got a bite, he went home and crashed out, excited to put his bike together the next morning.
Saturday afternoon, they were dropped off and we spent about a half hour putting the bike together. The worst part is that the bike has hand-brakes and getting those set right for Cooper took some time. I had to make sure that he could squeeze them, but not so easy that he'd be able to lock the tires up with him. I'd rather he use the pedal breaks until he's comfortable and can stop when he intends than have a crash because the hand breaks didn't stop him. After it was all put together, we spent some time doing other things until later afternoon hoping it would get a little warmer. That morning it was still 32ish outside and windy so not really that great for bike riding. After lunch, we took the bike over to the house to give him a quick ride. It was so cold that he had to wear gloves so it wasn't exactly the best weather for trying to go sans training wheels.

I don't think he's really ready for it just yet so I just let him have them, but they are up as high as they'll go. He's still good and tippy so it'll help him learn a bit of balance and then we can work on taking them off for a few crashes. Cosmo got in on the action zipping up and down the road on the tricycle by pushing along with his feet as hes not quite able to work the pedals.
With a few trips up and down the road, Cooper had had enough of trying to ride in the cold so we called it a ride and headed out.
Monday it poured for most of the day. We spent the day just relaxing and working on a 750 piece, 3 foot panoramic photo puzzle of Times Square on a busy night and playing matchbox cars. We've got a fair amount done but it'll take a little of me working on it Thursday to finish it off. Today, the weather was good so I took the kids back to Toys R Us to get some things to play with at the park. We ended up with a Stomp Rocket and some sort of other AirHogs sling shot rocket with a couple of planes that fly off the rocket at its peak height.

I wouldn't recommend the stomp rockets for a kid Coopers size as he just doesn't have the weight to get it to go much beyond 15 feet. When I stomped it, I wouldn't go much beyond 35 feet. While it seems like a good idea, Cooper got tired of it fast as it couldn't even make it up far enough to come down in it's little helicopter mode.
Moving on to the playground itself, the boys had fun for another hour or so chasing each other and trying to hide from me taking their picture.

Tomorrow's agenda is to spend a couple hours candle pin bowling, followed by a trip to the mall, which will be my first trip on over a year, to get Cooper some cleats and shin guards and tube socks for soccer which starts in two weeks. If the weather men somehow were wrong, we'll probably spend a bit more time at the playground.

Train Art

Coming through Bangor tonight, Cosmo saw the train coming so we pulled over near the SeaDog and waited for the train to cross the bridge and pass the restaurant. I happen to have my camera with me from taking pictures of Cooper and Cosmo on the bikes today so I decided to snap a couple of pictures of the graffiti on the cars to look at later.

These two were my favorite as I'd rather look at graffiti a lot more if it was something more than just a tag. Having an actual picture to look at is much more enjoyable than trying to look at something and guess what the letters are and the message overall.

Mighty Camo'd Hunter

Cooper and Cosmo wouldn't eat the peanuts in the shell that I had and I only eat them on occasions like when we were boiling sap down. Its nice to sit and eat them around a fire but that wont be happening again for a while. Rather than eat them, I let the kids throw them off the porch for the squirrels. It caused quite the battle outside between the animals. The peanuts attracted the squirrels alright as well as the crows. With the crows then came this guy. He decided to climb up about 20 feet in the tree and just wait for the birds or squirrel to get close enough to take a chance at them.

I like this one the most as he decided to stop and peek at me when I walked out on the porch. He must have some massive claws to be able to pause sideways on the tree like this.

Baseball / Soccer Fun

It actually got up to 60 degrees today. Cooper, Cosmo, and I went over to one of the baseball fields in Brewer to practice Coopers hitting and to play a little soccer before he starts both in May. Gotta get him out there and comfortable with both again so he'll have fun playing and want to stick with them.

Day off with Dad

Cooper had gone to school and when we came back, Cosmo had to chill out while I went and took a shower to get ready for the day. I put on an episode of SpongeBob for him while I went in and when I came back, he was pretty chilled out. How he sat comfortably like this with legs folded back I don't know but he seemed pretty content.

After playing HexBugs for the morning (see previous post) we ended up having a father / son lunch at Denny's. Despite being a little warm, he at all his chicken, msot of his fries, and all of his apple slices.

He was definitely not impressed when the waitress brought our ice cream sundae but forgot to leave spoons. Giving him a sundae with no spoon was a cruel tease...

Wink Wink

While waiting at Cooper's last dental appointment Cosmo was working on his winking. He hasn't quite got it down yet but he'll get there...

Reny's

You know you're shopping in Maine when you see handwritten signs like this...Furthermore, you know you're shopping in a Reny's when they use words like Ay-uh..

HexBug Fun

Doing some more fun dump...This is from last week when I kept Cosmo home due to a fever on my day off. We spent the morning playing with HexBugs and Matchbox cars. Back in December when the boys got these for Christmas, Cosmo would like to go through the bugs, pick his favorite and just hold it in his hand while they vibrated as it would tickle his hands. Now he's gotten better and actually likes to let them loose and just tries to rescue them when they tip rather than letting them right themselves.
